P.E.R.K. up your fundraiser by selling Coffee from
The Reading Coffee Roasters
P is for Plan – Have a plan of action. Set a goal for how much your organization needs to earn from the fundraiser. Determine how many individuals will be participating and set a reasonable goal for each. We also do not recommend that you sell more than one fundraiser at a time. It will fragment your sales and keep students from focusing on selling one product really well.
Set a kick off date and a completion date, clearly communicating both dates to all participants. We recommend that you have the participants write that date down and be committed to finishing on schedule. This way your supporters will not have to wait extremely long for their product.
E is for Energize - Get excited about selling and your organization will reap the profits! Publicize your sale. If your organization is part of a school, have the students make posters or flyers and place them around. If your school does a morning television broadcast, have your students prepare an advertisement or skit promoting the sale to be aired throughout the school, or ask the principal to make an announcement.
Talk to the students daily about what they are doing to meet their goal. Let others share what they are doing to encourage the other students. Remind them this is for a limited time only and they need to make sure everyone they know gets an opportunity to support your organization. Count down the last few days of the sale to prepare the students for turning their order forms in on time.
R is for Reward - Offering rewards to every participant who meets their goal can boost your sales tremendously. A reward can be as simple and inexpensive as offering an "excused homework pass" or a "drop the lowest grade pass", a candy bar, anything that would appeal to your participants. Most businesses will donate discount coupons, movie tickets and concession coupons. Restaurants will usually donate appetizer coupons at no charge. Offer these to the individuals who exceed their goal.
If your students are already divided into groups (by classrooms, school year age, work teams, etc.), reward the group that has the largest sales with a pizza or ice cream party. We don't recommend dividing them for that purpose but if they are already in groups this will encourage team work, boost your sales and the cost is minimal.
K is for Keep it simple - Collect the money as you presell the product. Therefore, at the end of your fundraiser you will have your profit up front and be able to pay for your order immediately without having to “front the cash”.
Ask for parent volunteers, or officers, to total the sales. We provide a Master Order Form to tally up the totals. Check and double check the totals. Record them on the Order Form and fax the order to us.
Once your product has been received, deliver to your supporters, celebrate your success, and reward the individuals who met and exceeded their goals. Let everyone know what the funds will be used for and enjoy!!!
