Reading Coffee School is the educational home of Reading Coffee Company — a place for coffee lovers, home brewers, industry professionals, and Reading Coffee partners to learn more about what goes into a truly great cup of coffee.

Led by John Cappelletti, Director of Training & Beverage, Coffee School brings together hands-on workshops, tastings, brewing education, professional barista training, and the decades of coffee knowledge that live inside Reading Coffee every day.

Our philosophy is simple: coffee knowledge should be approachable, useful, and fun. You don't need to know the difference between washed and natural processing to walk through the door. You just need to be curious.

Learn from People Who Live Coffee

John serves as the lead educator and driving force behind Reading Coffee School, developing its curriculum and guiding students through everything from coffee fundamentals and sensory exploration to brewing, espresso, milk technique, latte art, and professional beverage development.

But at Reading Coffee, John's classroom extends well beyond the training bar.

Coffee School gives participants access to the collective knowledge of a team with decades of real-world coffee experience.

That includes Reading Coffee President & CEO Frank Orman, a Certified Arabica Q Grader, bringing a trained sensory perspective to coffee quality, evaluation, sourcing, and the characteristics that make coffees from around the world unique.

It includes our Roaster of more than 25 years, whose experience offers students something a textbook simply can't: an opportunity to understand roasting through thousands upon thousands of batches and years spent learning how green coffee responds to heat.

And it includes Reading Coffee's experienced professional coffee staff — people who brew, taste, roast, prepare, troubleshoot, and talk about coffee every day.

Together, they make Coffee School more than a series of workshops. It's an opportunity to learn coffee from the people who actually do it.

Something for Every Level of Curiosity

Coffee School is designed to welcome people wherever they are in their coffee journey.

Coffee Lovers & the Coffee Curious can explore approachable classes, tastings, roastery experiences, and Coffee School 101 programs. Learn why coffees taste different, how roasting changes a bean, what makes a better brew, or simply discover something new about the drink you enjoy every morning.

Home Baristas & Coffee Enthusiasts can dig deeper into brewing methods, extraction, sensory skills, espresso, milk technique, latte art, origins, processing, and the science behind a great cup.

Coffee Professionals can build practical skills through more advanced barista, espresso, sensory, workflow, beverage development, and equipment education.

Reading Coffee Wholesale Partners can use Coffee School as an extension of their own teams, with professional onboarding, barista education, recipe standards, menu and beverage development, continuing education, and ongoing training support.

And through Private Coffee School experiences, groups, businesses, organizations, and celebrations can experience Reading Coffee through private tastings, workshops, and customized coffee experiences.

More Than a Classroom

Coffee School doesn't have to end when the workshop does.

Through an expanding collection of brew guides, videos, coffee terminology, recipes, origin stories, equipment tips, and answers to common coffee questions, Reading Coffee School can become the educational resource for anyone who wants to understand—and enjoy—coffee a little more.

The School can also take advantage of something uniquely Reading Coffee: our people and our working roastery.

One class might find John behind the espresso machine demonstrating extraction. Another could bring Frank into a sensory session to explore how a Q Grader evaluates coffee. Students might step into the roastery to learn from more than 25 years of roasting experience, or work alongside members of our café team to understand the techniques professional baristas use every day.

The result is an experience that isn't manufactured for a classroom.

This is what we do every day. Coffee School simply invites you in.
